Synchronised backed for Gold Cup glory
Tony McCoy rode Synchronised to an impressive victory in the Lexus chase at Leopardstown leading the Jonjo O’Neill trained horse to be shortened to 12/1 in the Cheltenham Gold Cup betting.
The eight-year-old had been aimed at the Coral Welsh National but was re-routed to take on Rubi Light and Quito De La Rogue in Ireland. The horse’s stamina never came into question as McCoy sent him to victory before jumping the last.
“That's brilliant, I couldn't be more delighted,” said Frank Berry, JP McManus’s racing manager.
“Jonjo has done a fantastic job and he got a great ride. I thought the ground might be too quick for him but he handled it really well.
“He gets the trip and he jumps, and he'll get an entry in the Gold Cup. We'll leave it to Jonjo and we'll wait and see. He had a hard enough race there and more than likely will go straight to Cheltenham. He'll also get an entry in the English Grand National.”
Boyle Sports (Go to Boyle Sports ») now offer a best price of 14/1 on Synchronised winning the Gold Cup in March, while Sportingbet (Go to Sportingbet ») go 25/1 about his Grand National chances.
