Khan-Peterson rematch confirmed
Amir Khan’s promoter has claimed that a rematch between the Bolton fighter and American Lamont Peterson has been confirmed by the WBA.
Khan has raised several concerns in the aftermath of his points-decision defeat to Peterson, calling into question a number of aspects of the bout. One of the most significant being the presence of an unidentified man at the referees’ table during the fight.
“I just received, half an hour ago, a letter from the WBA on their official decision that they are going to order an immediate rematch,” Richard Schaefer, chief executive of Golden Boy promotions, told RingTV.
“I think that it's the right decision, and I hope that we can get the rematch done.”
If Schaefer’s claims turn out to be accurate then Peterson could choose to relinquish his belt by not accepting the rematch.
Bookmaker Ladbrokes (Go to Ladbrokes ») currently offer odds of 1/4 for Khan to win a rematch between the pair and 11/8 that this time he doesn’t let it go the distance and wins by knockout. The American is 3/1 to back up his victory in Washington with another win here and odds of 22/1 are available on the draw.
