Wolves v Birmingham FA Cup Betting
Wolverhampton Wanderers take on Birmingham this Wednesday in a FA Cup 3rd round replay, following a dire goalless draw when the sides met at St Andrews’ a week-and-a-half ago.
The Premier League outfit edged it in terms of chances on goal in the first meeting, but at the end of the day a draw was probably a fair result. Although Wolves could have nicked in the dying seconds as Colin Doyle made a superb save onto the post from Matt Jarvis.
Mick McCarthy didn’t make as many changes to his starting XI as was perhaps expected for the first meeting between the teams, but this added fixture could see him adopt those policies slightly. Jody Craddock, Jamie O’Hara and Ronald Zubar all remain sidelined through injury.
Birmingham boss Chris Hughton did bring in some of his fringe players for the game and given that they matched the Premier League side there is no reason for him to change strategy.
Home advantage sees Wolves made the strong 11/10 favourites by bookmaker Bet365 (Go to Bet365 »). Birmingham are the betting outsiders at odds of 5/2 and a draw that would see the tie go into extra time is available to back at odds of23/10.
Wolves forward Steven Fletcher is the 5/1 favourite to open the scoring. However, the Scotland international was not named in the starting XI in the first match so Kevin Doyle (6/1) and Sylvan Ebanks-Blake may provide better value at odds of 13/2.
That is if we do indeed see any goals in the game. Chances were at a premium in Birmingham 10 days ago and so the 3/4 available on there being fewer than 2.5 goals is likely to be a popular bet. Another 0-0 scoreline is available to back at odds of 9/1.
The winner of this tie will face Sheffield United at Bramall Lane in the fourth round on 28 January 2011.
