England fight back on day two in Dubai
England’s cricketers have fought back on the second day of the first Test against Pakistan as two late wickets helped keep the tourists in the match.
Misbah-ul-Haq’s side looked to be cruising at the end of day one as England were bowled out for 192 before Mohammad Hafeez and Taufeeq Umar led Pakistan to 37-0 at stumps. But a workmanlike display of bowling on day two has limited Pakistan’s lead to just 96 and they’ll resume on day three at 288-7.
It looked as though it would be Pakistan’s day again as the day’s play edged towards a close but in the final two overs Graeme Swann took the hosts’ captain, before James Anderson took out Abdur Rehman with the final ball of the day.
Pakistan still remain seemingly in control of the match, but those two late wickets have brought England back into the fold. Having been matched at a high of 10.0 (9/1) on betting exchange Betfair (Go to Betfair ») , Andrew Strauss and co. are now in to 4.7 (7/2) to take an early 1-0 lead in the series.
The hosts are now 1.64 (5/8) having dipped as low as 1.4 (2/5), while the draw remains the outsider of the three possible results at 5.4 (9/2) despite previously being available to back at 7.8 (7/1).
