Murray odds-on to never win a Slam
Bookmaker William Hill (Go to William Hill ») make Andy Murray a 4/6 chance to end his career without winning a Grand Slam title after losing an epic five-set battle with Novak Djokovic in the semi-final of the Australian Open.
“If Andy can shake off the psychological blow of coming so near yet so far, he doesn’t have much ground to make up on the top three – and he may well have started favourite against Nadal had he got through” said Hill’s spokesman Graham Sharpe.
The Scot has played in three Grand Slam finals – 2008 US Open, 2010 Australian Open and 2011 Australian Open – and has made the semi-finals of Wimbledon on three separate occasions and once at last year’s French Open.
However, the nature of defeat in this year’s semi in Melbourne was encouraging for the world number four who believes that he is now closing the gap between himself and the three men lifting tennis’s major titles.
“I think that gap, I feel tonight I closed it,” said Murray.
“Everybody matures at different ages and different rates. I feel now like I'm ready mentally [to challenge the top three]. Physically I can still get better, for sure. But in comparison to how I played last year, it was much, much better.”
Murray is available to back at 20/1 for the French Open title and is 7/1 to win Wimbledon.
