Yousuf Denies Poor Performance As Captain

Yousuf Said He Performed Well Considering The Circumstances

Pakistan captain Mohammad Yousuf has refuted allegations that his leadership abilities led to the side's poor performances against Australia in a recent set of one-day internationals.

The 35-year-old said he intends to continue in his job as skipper for the good of the team, adding that he took the responsibility when no one else had been willing.

Commenting on the series with Australia, he remarked: "I didn't do badly as captain, not [so] badly that I should resign or quit.

"I led the team according to the situation and according to our strengths."

Yousuf also claimed that Pakistan chairman Ijaz Butt had a hand in the team's downfall, noting that his suggestions of a new captain affected the players.

A few of the people in the squad even fancied themselves for the role, he alleged.

England are due to face Pakistan in February for a Twenty20 series, with 888Sport (Go to 888sport ») and Blue Square (Go to Blue Square ») favouring the draw at even odds.
