Mallet: I'm Confident In Gower's Ability

Mallett Is Confident That Gower Will Improve On The International Stage

Head coach of Italy Nick Mallett has said that the Six Nations competition could be Craig Gower's chance to shine for his country.

The fly-half was born and raised in Australia and plays club rugby union for French side Bayonne, with Mallet admitting Gower's difficulties with the language barrier.

"That's a big problem as Craig doesn't speak Italian," he remarked, adding that the position is one in which "you have to be able to communicate with the other players".

However, Mallet - who is himself from South Africa and admits trouble speaking the lingo - said that the 31-year-old could find his feet in the Six Nations.

Despite Gower not having played in the tournament before, his manager claimed he was "confident" in the athlete's ability to perform well.

Italy are currently the rank outsiders to win the event, which begins this weekend (February 6th), with 888Sport (Go to 888sport ») and Expekt (Go to Expekt ») both offering odds of 250/1 that the side will be victorious.
