Selby Favourite for Australian Open

Mark Selby is favourite to win the Australian Goldfields Open following victory in the Wuxi Classic in China.

The world number three got his snooker season off to the perfect start with a win over Ali Carter in the final of the new Asian tournament. Selby is now being hotly tipped to win down under which would cap the best start to a season he's ever had.

“Last season I got pipped at the end of a couple of tournaments so it's great to win a trophy so early this time,” said Selby.

“I know this isn't a ranking event but it was still a very strong line up so to win the title is a good achievement. It can only do good for my confidence and hopefully there will be more to come this season.”

Selby has been one of the fastest developing players on the snooker scene. Many former players and current professionals have agreed that Selby has a world championship in him and he is now well poised to dominate the sport this season.

The snooker World Cup takes place before the Goldfields Open and the event in Australia is followed by the start of the Premier League. Selby is currently a 7/1 shot to win in Australia.
