Michael Vick to return to NFL

Vick used to play for the Falcons

Michael Vick is to make his return to the NFL after signing a two-year contract with Philadelphia Eagles.

The quarterback, who was highly regarded during his six seasons with Atlanta Falcons thanks to his running abilities, recently left prison after serving 18 months of his 23-month sentence for orchestrating a dog-fighting ring.

Wide receiver DeSean Jackson welcomed Vick to the team, stating on the Eagles' official website: "He's a great player. He has a lot to prove to everybody.

"We're just going to support him and hopefully he can come into our team and make some things happen."

The Eagles, who reached the NFC conference championships in 2008-09, are looked on as one of the main contenders for Super Bowl glory this season, with Victor Chandler (Go to VCBet ») making them 14/1 fourth favourites behind 11/2 New England Patriots, 8/1 Pittsburgh Steelers and 11/1 San Diego Chargers.

They are evens at Betfred (Go to Betfred ») to win their first match of the 2009-10 campaign against Carolina Panthers on September 13th.
