200m odds slashed as Bolt breaks record

Bolt ran 9.58 seconds in the 100 metres final

Usain Bolt is now a 1/50 favourite with Bet365 (Go to Bet365 ») to win the 200 metres at the Berlin World Athletics Championships after breaking the 100 metres world record yesterday.

The Jamaican ran a time of 9.58 seconds in the men's 100 metres final, finishing 0.13 seconds ahead of nearest rival Tyson Gay and beating his previous record by 0.11 seconds - the biggest improvement in the modern era.

And the bookies suggest that another world best could be on the cards in the 200 metres event. Before the 100 metres, the odds indicated that they felt nobody would better his mark of 19.30 seconds; but Betfair (Go to Betfair ») is now offering 19/29 that the record will go.

Reigning 200 metres champion Gay, who ran the third fastest time in history in the 100 metres and is the quickest man over the longer distance this year, is the second favourite to take the title at 10/1 with Extrabet (Go to Extrabet »).
